My trip to Frankfurt: A day in the world of Sinn

When you visit Sinn in Frankfurt, you immediately understand that this is not a "simple" watchmaking business. It is a laboratory of technology, tradition and innovation.

During my visit, I had the honour of meeting Lothar Schmidt, the man who has been setting the pace for Sinn for decades, and the master craftsman Hermann Josef Müller, with whom we discussed the movements that drive Sinn watches - from the reliable Valjoux 7750 to the modern Sellita and La Joux-Perret.

A special moment was when I met Lars, who was responsible for the surface treatments. With passion and technical precision he explained the three different finishing techniques - polishing, brushing and bead blasting - and the secret Tegiment process, which hardens the steel and makes it almost immune to scratches. It was like revealing the "invisible armor" that protects every Sinn.

I also had the opportunity to meet Anne-Katrin Strömer, responsible for After-Sales Service. She described in impressive detail the process that is followed for each of the approximately 4,000 watches that are returned annually for service: from photographing and recording the condition, to the final checks before the watch is returned to its owner. This methodical approach made me realise how seriously Sinn takes the care of its watches.

Of course, Hydro Technology - the innovative oil filling that makes the diving Sinn (like the UX and U50) perfectly readable underwater, eliminating the mirror effect - could not be missed. When I saw the comparison of a "filled" and a "normal" watch in the water, the difference was really striking.

The highlight, however, was the AR-Dehumidifying System - the main reason for my trip. Through a short seminar, I was trained in the maintenance of this unique technology and acquired the specialized equipment to be able to offer full support to the owners of these watches as an authorized service Sinn in Greece.

Sinn doesn't just make watches. It creates tools for life. And through this experience I came to understand even more strongly what German precision, technological innovation and personal attention to every detail mean.
