Breitling SuperOcean Service & Crown / Tube Replacement

Breitling's SuperOcean Heritage series is perhaps the most characteristic expression of the brand's nautical DNA. It combines the aesthetics of vintage dive watches from the '50s with the modern mechanical perfection of a high-fidelity automatic chronograph. In this particular example, a SuperOcean Heritage Chronograph with a blue dial, the watch was brought to The Watchmaker's workshop for a full service and crown and tube replacement.

Although The Watchmaker is not an official Breitling authorized service center, the process followed was entirely in accordance with the manufacturer's specifications - using genuine Breitling parts, careful assembly and strict tightness and function tests.

Diagnosis & Dismantling

During the initial examination, a leakage problem was identified due to wear of the crown and crown tube. These two elements are critical for water resistance, especially in diving watches such as the SuperOcean, where protection against moisture must be absolute.

The watch was completely disassembled. The case was thoroughly cleaned, while the movement - the Breitling Caliber 13 automatic chronograph, based on the reliable Valjoux 7750 - underwent a complete overhaul. All components were ultrasonically cleaned and lubricated with the appropriate oils in accordance with Breitling's technical instructions.

Crown & Pipe Replacement

The worn crown and tube were replaced with genuine Breitling parts, which come directly from the factory. The fitting of the new tube requires great precision, as it must be perfectly aligned with the crown shaft to ensure smooth operation and correct application of the seals. After the replacement, a thorough check of the engagement and feel of the crown was carried out, ensuring that the clutch system was working perfectly and that the tightness had returned to the desired level.

Reassembly & Checks

The movement was then reassembled and the rotor was repositioned with the characteristic inscription "Breitling Chronographe Certifié Chronomètre". The chronograph's operation was checked at all stages (start - stop - reset), while the accuracy was set on a professional multi-position chronograph.

The watch passed a tightness test at 10 bar with the help of the ProofMaster machine, confirming that the tightness was fully restored. The final phase included cleaning the case, aesthetics check and a watch winder loading test of the automatic movement.

The result

The result was a Breitling SuperOcean Heritage Chronograph that not only returned to its factory specifications, but also exudes once again the sense of robustness and luxury that characterizes every Breitling. The blue bezel and rubber strap mesh complete the picture of a watch ready for new adventures - whether at sea or in everyday life.

This work is a prime example of the way we at The Watchmaker treat each watch: with respect for the maker, technical precision and commitment to authenticity. Because every Breitling, regardless of age or model, deserves to retain the functionality and reliability with which it was made.
